Forma: had + forma pasada del verbo
Usos:
Uso 1: cuando se describe una serie de acciones, el past perfect se usa para describir la acción que ocurrió primero
EJEMPLOS:I had gone home; then I read a book and fell asleep. The lawyers had slowly workedtoward an agreement that was acceptable for everyone; then they printed the agreement and gave it to their clients.

Uso 2: cuando se describen dos acciones pasadas que ocurrieron al mismo tiempo, se puede usar el past perfect para describir la acción más corta. La acción más larga se puede describir usando los tiempos simple past o past continuous. Mira el Uso 3 del past continuous explicado con anterioridad en este artículo.

(Aunque estas dos oraciones usen tiempos verbales ligeramente distintos de los que vimos en los ejemplos del Uso 3 del past continuous, estos ejemplos tienen el mismo sentido que los anteriores).
